Shiro was born in April 1993. Now she is old and stiff and likes to sleep a lot. She has lost her hearing and is somewhat blind. She is still the Queen at the farm. She is retired and much beloved.
History:
She came from a cattle ranch in Eastern Washington. Shiro is almost all white and very well built. She is like a brick house. Her parents were not registered Border Collies. She does not takes any *guff* from anyone: the other dogs, the rams, the sheep, the goats and the neighbors cows.
Many years ago, I did AKC herding with her. I never let her cover she sheep and micromanaged her. Since I discovered ISDS trialing a few years ago, I promptly retired her and let her help me out on the farm. She can move the toughest rams but yet then be super gentle with the lambs.
She is one of the most driven and keenest dogs I have ever seen. Nothing shuts her down. She likes a challenge with the sheep.
Shiro was also a top Frisbee dog, competing and placing well statewide. She also did a TV commercial and was taped for the Bill Nye show. She has toured the country with us and is a great dog to have around. She protects the house and is the official greeter of children.
Jeff love Shiro and she loved him back. She was his dog from the first time she saw him. They had that magic bond and were inseparable. Jeff trained her to play Frisbee and she did well.
When we would go camping, she would send he off to the woods and she would bring back firewood. One time, she brought back several nice cut firewood. It was perfect for the fire. We were curious and followed her and she was going to the camper's next to us and smoozing up to them. They would feed her a treat and then she would go to their wood pile and take a piece of wood and then disappear. A few minutes later, it was repeat.
We were so embarrassed and Shiro was quite proud of herself. We made new friends that night.
Sadly at the age of 15 years and 2 months, Shiro was put to sleep. She is still with us and we miss each every day. She was our first dog and taught us to live life to the fullest. We love her still and miss her every dayed .
